Since this was kind of a milestone birthday and the timing just seemed to work out, I decided to surprise Suz with a scooter. She's been interested in one for a long time, ever since the seed was planted when her good friend Kori started riding one a few years back.

We'll the surprise was definitely a surprise. She was convinced I would just get her some 'dumb' gift from Costco. This ought to buy me a little future credit I think.

Suz was so unsuspecting that she walked right past it in the garage. We had to stop her and point it out to her before the surprise sunk home.

Luckily it's pretty easy to ride and she took to it like a fish to water and started buzzing up and down the streets

After all the excitement wore off, we retired to the kitchen for some birthday cake. The cake was so rich that we barely ate any of it. There will be a lot left for her YW party tomorrow, which is good because we definitely don't need the extra calories.

We were sad that Sarah had to celebrate her first birthday away from us this year. Luckily grandma and grandpa were there to pick up the slack and take her out to a good birthday lunch.

However sad being away from mom and dad on her birthday seemed at first, it probably ended up being the best birthday she's ever had, because at lunch she found out she'd been accepted to the BYU Marriott school IS program. What a great birthday present. The program is one of the top 10 in the country and it's a real honor to be accepted.

Sarah was so happy, but the good times weren't over yet. That evening she got to go to a fun concert with the White keys, Goo Goo Dolls and Daughtry with her friends. What a great birthday.

In a highly unusual turn of events, Suz and I were able to take a fun afternoon trip to the property and ride quads and and do a little target practice with the bow. It's pretty rare for us to get time together at the the prop and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We were also able to bottle up some of our golden delicious honey. This is our first batch, so we don't really have anything to compare to, but everyone who's tried it says it's amazingly tasty. How can you argue with that. It makes all the work worth it.

Seth has been really interested in learning how to do it and has been a big help. He did a great job of getting it all in the bottles

The final count ended up being 67 and a half 1 pound jars and 24 8oz jars. A pretty good haul for our first year I'd say. Hopefully we'll get a fall harvest as well and add a few more jars to the inventory.

The boys also had scout camp last week. It was pretty hot and humid but they had a good time and got a lot of merit badges done.

Around the house, the chores never end. One endless chore is rebuilding toilets. There's something about the limestone in the water here that eats plastic and rubber on toilets like pacman after some dots. I can't count how many times I've rebuilt them, so I decided to teach Sawyer a new skill.
